Nutritional
& Herbal Information for Oral Health
If the
body is nutritionally deficient, disease processes will surface. A poor
diet will weaken the immune system, making the host susceptible. Infection
and dis-ease can upset the quality of life. One disease that may surface
is periodontal disease.
Now
we are recognizing the connection between the mouth and the heart in relation
to bacteria. The very same plaque that exists on our teeth can effect
the walls of the arteries, leading to high cholesterol, heart disease,
and stroke.
Diabetics
are susceptible to increased infection due to a depressed ability to heal.
They also have an increase in sugar content in the fluids that are present
under the cervical area of the gums.
Some
common herbals that can contribute to periodontal breakdown
are Black Cohosh, Echinacea, Red Raspberry Leaves, Evening Primrose Oil,
Ginkgo Biloba, Ginseng, St. John's Wart, and Kava Kava.
